I have made and re-made this mix several times over the years. The base inspiration came while landing in St. Louis after my second stay in México at 19. I happened to hear the Carlos/Willie track for the first time at the end of some music I taped off some friends. Literally hearing "They take the truck south to St Louis MO...torcycle all the way to Mexico" as the plane touched down.
When I got off the plane, I suddenly noticed kindred spirits throughout my tape collection (mostly Bob & Jimmy, Neil and the aforementioned Havana Moon album). From my birth in Panamá and my first visit to México at 16, I felt my soul had come home.
Hasta pronto...
