Sammy and I were chatting about his upcoming 100th mix, which landed with such aplomb earlier this summer. He encouraged me to do something similar for my 100th. Well, it turns out my 100th was somewhere in the middle of my redneck series last fall.
So, here I am at my 150th and rather than nick Sammy's idea 100%, I decided to do a one-song tribute to as many mixers as I could legitimately pay tribute to. My reasons were varied: the track selected is a song I know they love, or that I love off one of my favorite mixes of theirs, a style they might enjoy, or a song or artist they led me to, or perhaps one that I may have led them to, common ground we might have with an artist or song, or simply a personal message that hopefully the recipient understands (or at least hopefully I understand).
Sammy's mix helped provide a template in terms of mixers I didn't want to overlook as well as a base sample of their tastes. But I wanted to also pay tribute to long-lost mixers without having to contact them and blindly trust that their email was accurate on AotM.
I have made tributes here and there for different mixers, and had others makes ones for me, but this time I wanted to get as many of you as I could with one fell swoop. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did putting it together. And I hope that nobody feels left out, besides Sammy's list, my guideline was primarily folks who have commented on my own mixes (and my family's mixes) over the years. Not that one or two who have never commented on a doowad or doowad-related mix didn't make the cut, it just seemed proper to honor those most deserving first. And if you happened to be left off here, email me and we'll do a Mutual Appreciation Society mix as payback.
Oh, and regarding sequence, I listed all the songs in Excel first, lumped them in a playlist and then sequenced them doowad-style, averting my eyes from the original list to avoid favoritism. Less scientific than Sammy's, but at least less biased than a Florida election.
Posdata: As a sort-of tribute to RetroJoe and his actuarial statistics, here are some numbers:
- The mixers I picked from ranged from jkj to beat-nick, which gave a mean of ladyluck1123.
- The sum total of all the mixer IDs was
3168246. - The average mixer was chocoholic123, who for obvious reasons is not included.
- Jenergy was the the median mixer..
- The biggest leap from one mixer ID number to another was 9841, from hemizen to, appropriately enough, his brother.
¡Muchas gracias por todo a todos!

Dude.
This mix is almost as long as my...
O my goodness! I am honored to reside in such stellar company, and am overwhelmed (as always) by your endless supply of sonic wisdom.
Wow, an awesome collection. Great music and a who's who of AotM. So much music so little time. A truly inspired pick as my contribution. Thanks.
You doo right Doowad. Splendid and thanks for the tip o' the hat. I've added your blog to my blogroll by the way. You're at the top of the list. Alphabetically speaking that is.
I can't say enough about how awesome this is. An impressive feat, and one that I'm honored to be a part of!
Stellar! So momentous that I braved the virus-infested waters of AOTM but was unable to comment. Your choice for me was perfect.
Thanks, man. I accidentally found this page. Nice to notice someone noticing.
